1943 - Foundation
On 3rd September 1943, Jan Prošvic, an entrepreneur, founded ESA – an electrical joint-stock company, thus laying the foundation of the production of household electrical appliances in a small town, Hlinsko, Czech Republic, where he started manufacturing electric irons.
1948
Nationalization and incorporation of the Company into the Elektro-Praga concern, which change the name of the Company to Elektro-Praga until 1955.
1950
From 1950 to 1965, the Company operated as Elektro-Praga Hlinsko, a stateowned enterprise.
1952
The production of vacuum cleaners was transferred from Rýnovice to Hlinsko where it soon became the main production programme of the Company. It was historically the first production of vacuum cleaners in the Czech Republic.
The ETA trademark was registered and it is still the best-known trademark for electrical appliances in the Czech Republic.
1973
Stanislav Lachman, a world-famous designer, became the Company’s designer for ETA household electrical appliances.
His most famous designs include a food processor in the shape of a chalice from 1954, a hairdryer in the shape of a laser gun and in 1973, he designed the most controversial iron – ETA 211, with the largest ironing surface in the world at that time.
1981
The production of the ETA x400 vacuum cleaner was launched and almost 2,500,000 pieces were made in sixteen years.
1993
Privatization of Elektro-Praga Hlinsko, a joint-stock company, via voucher privatization. Privatization funds of large banks were the first owners.
1996
The name of the Company was changed to ETA a. s., in accordance with the trademark.
The production of the ETA 219/220 dry iron ended, with over 11,500,000 pieces manufactured since 1972.
2002
Launching the production of components for the automotive industry and recruiting a new company’s designer: Zdeněk Veverka.
2013
In 2013, ETA celebrated the 70th anniversary of its foundation. At this occasion, the Company introduced a true treat to the market: the novelty GENEROSO from the category of bag floor vacuum cleaners with an incredible extended warranty for 70 years in the limited edition and with only 1943 pieces available.
Four years in a row, the ETA Gratus food processor became the best-selling food processor in its category on the Czech market. ETA continue to innovate and come up with new accessories that make the ETA food processors truly multifunctional. Gratus Maxipasta and Gratus Fresh are the proof od that.
